FAQ

FAQ'S

  • What is Pilates?

Pilates is a training method designed to engage the mind and condition the body through isolated movement training originally referred to as the art of “Contrology” by Joseph Pilates.

The combination of strength and flexibility training helps reduce stress on joints and the spine, whilst producing length in muscles with the end goal of increased posture alignment, improved core, muscle strength, and movement in everybody

Pilates focus on concentration, control, posture, precision and core strength has become well known as being a major part of the exercise routine for both male and female professional athletes, dancers and gymnasts.

  • How will Pilates help me?

Pilates will help you in many, which we can write an entire book about! However in summary Pilates is known to:

    • Offer relief from back pain and joint tension
    • Improve strength, flexibility and balance.
    • Tone and build longer and stronger muscles.
    • Realign the body to result in better Posture.
    • Challenge and strengthen the deep core and abdominal muscles.
    • Challenge your functional movement, to create healthy movement habits that help prevent injury and improve performance in sports and activities.
    • Alternative to weight training and HIIT that helps minimize injury during movement.
    • Improve the way your body looks and feels and how you feel about it!

Yes! We offer free onsite secure underground parking for each of our clients. To access our carpark enter the driveway at 200 Moggill Road, Taringa, keeping to the far left lane on Moggill Road (opposite Flannerys Taringa)

  • What about Pilates and weight loss?

Irrespective of what you may hear from other sources, Pilates was never designed to be a high calorie burning, High Intensity (HIIT) training session, or a prolonged cardio workout that you may get from other forms of exercise.

Whilst our programmes (especially our power reformer classes) will definitely factor both highly intensive movements and exercises which will get your heart rate up it will never be the same as running or cycling for an hour… To put it simply it’s not comparing apples with apples!

However, Pilates movement in combination with a healthy active lifestyle will definitely contribute to a noticeable change in the body, and Pilates will benefit your body in numerous ways including:

    • Motivating you to become more physically active.
    • Core and ab burning, and posture alignment, making you look thinner
    • Reducing the risk of injuries while undertaking other sporting activities or habits
    • Boosting your metabolism, meaning calorie burning even long after you’ve finished working out!
    • Being a highly addictive form of movement and exercise… especially “Feeling the Burn” and DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)

We look at Pilates as a lifestyle choice alongside a healthy diet and cardio activity for weight loss.

  • How often should I do Pilates for the best results?

Any movement is better than none! However, for optimum results we suggest ideally 3 or more Pilates sessions a week like any exercise regime. However twice or even once a week will help support mobility and posture improvement.

We recommend that it takes around 10-15 sessions for a beginner to get into the swing of Pilates, understanding its movement and principles and once the mind and body connection “Contrology” occurs you should start to see results improve rapidly with strength noticeably different within the first 10 classes.

  • Can I do Pilates whilst Pregnant?

Yes, Pilates is excellent to maintain exercise during pregnancy helping to strengthen and maintain your pelvic floor as well as maintain general strength and flexibility through all your terms*.

Our sessions are run in a small group to ensure appropriate supervision and technique correction for safe and effective exercise so even in a full class you won’t get overlooked.

Post birth we offer specific Mums and Bubs classes to help you continue to feel strong through your first stages of motherhood.

    * Please note that whilst we endeavour to facilitate all of our clients, the above is based on each individual’s personal physical strength, abilities and duration into pregnancy term in which they attend (i.e you cannot safely begin Pilates in the third trimester of your pregnancy having not done any previous Pilates leading into your pregnancy!).
